Most Expensive Shoes in the World
Shoes, glorious shoes! If, like me, you have a bit of a shoe fetish, then prepare to fall in love with some of the beauties in today’s list. All but two of these shoes are creations by world-renowned shoe guru Stuart Weitzman. Whether they’re worth that much money is another question, but hey, if you’re going to cry ‘cos you’re broke, at least you’ll be crying in some gemstone-encrusted designer heels.
So, without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the most expensive shoes in the world.
10. Stuarts Weitzman’s $500,000 Stilettos
Known as the “Diamond Dream Stilettos,” these shoes will knock your socks off! Not that you’d be wearing socks while sporting these heels, but you get the point. The shoes are made from over 1,420 diamonds, that’s more than 30 carats of the sparkling stones! They came into the spotlight after gracing the feet of Anika Noni Rose at the ’07 Oscars and have since become one of the most sought-after pair of shoes in the world.
9. Dorothy’s $666,000 Ruby Slippers
These slippers are one of the more impressive pairs on the list because, unlike most of the others, they don’t have real gemstones giving them most of their inherent value. That’s right, the ruby slippers actually are made with bright red sequins instead of rubies. Rather, the value in these shoes lies in the fact that they are the most iconic pair of shoes in the history of film. Only 4 pair of the original shoes used in the filming are known to exist today, and they are one of the most coveted movie memorabilia items, giving them the astonishing value you see above.
8. Stuart Weitzman’s Rose Pumps – $1,000,000
This pair of Weitzman shoes features a pair of gold pumps with large diamond-studded roses clipped on to the toe, making the shoes worth about $1 million. They contain a total of 100 carats of diamonds and even though you’d think any woman would die to wear them, Cody Diablo, when offered the opportunity to wear them to the Oscars, refused Weitzman’s offer.
7. Stuart Weitzman’s Marilyn Monroe Stilettos – $1,000,000
This pair of shoes is extra-special because, on top of being named for one of Hollywood’s best-known actresses, they actually utilize a pair of Monroe’s earrings on the shoe! Weitzman put an earring smack dab in the center of each flower, though he did decide to replace the originals with replicas before auctioning them off. This pair graced the feet of Regina King during the ’05 Oscars.
6. Stuart Weitzman’s Platinum Guild Stilettos – $1,090,000
Not only is this pair of shoes covered in diamonds, it is the Swiss army knife of expensive footwear. Not only do the shoes functions as, well, shoes, the diamonds that hang down from the ankle piece are removable and can be worn as earrings! These were worn by Laura Harring to the ’02 Oscars.
5. Stuart Weitzman’s Ruby Stilettos – $1,600,000
Because of the iconic slippers worn in Wizard of Oz, America has an obsession with rubies on shoes. These shoes are made with real rubies, so many that the shoes contain almost 124 carats of them! Sadly though, these shoes never saw the Oscars, Weitzman decided not to offer them to a lucky lady in 2003.
4. Stuart Weitzman’s Tanzanite Stilettos – $2,000,000
Another collaborative piece, these shoes offer a stunning combination of blue tanzanite and platinum. The shoes hold 185 carats of the blue jewel and smaller diamonds to accent the primary color, and utilize silver as well as platinum to complete the overall look. At only $2 million, one of these shoes is worth more than most of the other pairs of shoes on our list!
3. Stuart Weitzman’s Cinderella Slippers – $2,000,000
If Cinderella’s shoes were worth as much as this pair of Weitzman stilettos, it is no wonder that Prince Charming wanted to return the shoe to its rightful owner! While this pair of stilettos is worth $2 million, the right shoe is actually more valuable than the left because it contains a 5 carat Amaretto diamond that is worth about $1 million dollars. Alison Krauss was lucky enough to become Cinderella on the evening of the 2004 Oscars, but she didn’t lose one on her way home, they both got back to Weitzman in tact.
2. Stuart Weitzman’s Rita Hayworth Heels – $3,000,000
The last set by Weitzman on our list comes in at 3 million dollars and most of that value lies in the ruffle, not in the shoe. The ruffle contains rubies, diamonds and sapphires which make the value so high. Worn to the ’06 Oscars by Kathleen York, these shoes now reside in the collection of Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, Rita Hayworth’s daughter.
1. House of Harry Winston’s Ruby Slippers – $3,000,000
Without having graced the feet of Judy Garland, these ruby slippers are worth about 5 times what the movie pair is worth. The shoes are covered with real rubies and were made in 1989 by Harry Winston’s son. The shoes use about 5,000 rubies and about 50 carats of diamonds to make this the most expensive pair of shoes in the world!
