Legendary Comic Book Artist Bernie Wrightson Passes Away
One of the most iconic comic book illustrators Bernie Wrightson has passed away last Saturday after a lengthy fight with brain cancer. He was 68 years old.
Bernie is probably best known for co-creating the iconic Swamp Thing series, but his impressive career as a comics illustrator has started earlier, back in 1968, with “House of Mystery” issue #179.
After doing a stint in DC Comics he moved on to creating series of black-and-white adaptations of tales by H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allen Poe; film concept art, like the poster for the Stephen King horror movie “Creepshow,” and many illustrations of the popular superheroes like Spider-Man, Batman, The Incredible Hulk, Wonder Woman and many more.
The artistic community and friends have responded to the saddening news by lighting up the internet with tributes to Bernie Wrightson, an incredible talent and an inspiration to the next generations of illustrators.
