15 Peaceful Borders Between European Countries That Are Slowly Disappearing
It’s been an intense year with the migrant crisis in southern Europe, with over a million refugees turning countries’ borders into chaotic zones of cultures clash.
It could make you forget, that Europe is not all chaos now, and Netherlands-based photographer Valerio Vincenzo has decided to show us just that with his project “Borderline, the Frontiers of Peace”.
“With the help of a GPS and detailed maps, I have conducted many trips along these “erased” borderlines, with the intention of capturing the essence of these now-peaceful crossings,” says Vincenzo. “Even if sometimes these pictures have been taken thousands of km away from each other, they all provide images that are far from the stereotype that we tend to associate with the notion of border. What is a border anyway?”
The question of countries’ borders is as important as ever in the wake of the refugee crisis and the answers needed are far from clear. Yet I suggest to look at it with a gilmmer of hope: not long ago, Europe was completely divided by the hatreds and imagined differences between people, but as you’ll see from these pictures below, it has come a long way since then.
Here’s to the future, where we won’t be confined by tall walls and will live where our hearts desire.
