1. Miss Australia – Dame Edna Inspired
Inspired by the drag queen attire and eyeglasses worn by the infamous Dame Edna, Monika Radulovic wore this outfit as her National costume in the Miss Universe competition. Miss Australia’s homeland is reflected in the scales, reef inspired designs and eyeglasses which incorporate distinctive waves. Sydney designer Timothy Cubbo did not expect the beauty queen to sport the cumbersome eyeglasses on stage, but happily wore the purple wig over her own hair.
2. Miss Thailand – Tuk Tuk
A Tuk Tuk was the theme of Miss Thailand’s National costume in the Miss Universe competition. Painted in the colors found on the Thai flag, the rickshaw worn by Aniporn Chalermburanawong also featured thigh high tights, a mini-skirt, as well as a headlight and handlebars on a stunning blue bustier.
3. Miss Canada – Hockey Queen
The outrageous National costume modeled by Chanel Beckenlehner is a cross between something which Lady Gaga and Don Cherry – a well-known hockey announcer – would wear. 5. Miss USA – Who Knows What?
Erin Brady looked as confused as the rest of us, wearing her National costume in the Miss Universe competition. Making her look somewhat like a character from a Transformer movie, the outfit worn by Miss USA left observers wondering what it represented, and was also criticized as being unglamorous.
6. Miss Netherland – Pinwheels
This National costume worn by Nathalie den Dekker honored Holland in a number of ways. The close-fitting, glittery bodysuit features pinwheels designed to mimic windmills, and is complimented by a chiffon cape of red, white and blue – the colors of the country’s flag.

Featuring a Blue Curacao liquor bottle, the outfit worn by Laurien Angelista in the National costume segment of the Miss Universe competition finds her resembling a tropical cocktail. Orange and blue toile ruffles and fruity shoulder pads and headpiece complete the picture.

Honoring her family’s illustrious roots as cocoa farmers, Miss Venezuela dressed as a box of chocolates for the National costume segment of the Miss Universe contest. Complete with a mid-section full of LED lights, Irene Sofia Esser Quintero’s costume was touted as being the worst costume in the history of Venezuela’s participation in the event.
10. Miss Czech Republic – Taco Bell Delight
Claiming to be an artist’s rendering of a Burrito special from Prague’s Taco Bell Restaurant, Miss Czech Republic Gabriela Frankova defended the outfit she wore as her National costume in the Miss Universe competition.
11. Miss Peru – Traditional Dress
Cindy Mejia’s costume reflects the traditional Peruvian dress worn by people in the Mantaro Valley. Miss Peru proudly sported the outfit as her National costume for the Miss Universe competition, despite criticism that the plastic baby doll made it laughable.
