10 BIG World Records
1. World’s Biggest Fried Chicken Serving
As a part of the 70th Anniversary Celebration of its original recipe, Kentucky Fried Chicken decided to go big. In Louisville, the company served a whopping 2,493.35 lbs. of fried chicken in a specially-made KFC bucket. This serving made KFC the world record holder for the largest serving of fried chicken.
2. World’s Biggest Breasts
A native of Atlanta, Georgia holds the record for the world’s biggest natural breasts. Annie Hawkins-Turner, who currently has size 72ZZZ breasts has made a name for herself in the magazine and movie business. She began sending in pictures of herself to various magazines and since expanded to making her own movies. She is known by her “stage name” Norma Stitz to her fans.
3. World’s Biggest Bar of Chocolate
In order to make itself the world-record holder, an Armenian company created a gigantic bar of chocolate. Chocolate lovers beware, this may give you a heart-attack. The bar was 10-inches thick, measures 18.4 x 9 feet and weighed 9,720 pounds. If you could get your hands on only one of the 24 squares making up this huge bar of chocolate, you would still need a truck to bring home the 405 pound piece.
4. World’s Biggest Crab
While king crab legs have become a favorite because of their size and taste, the king crab is hardly king of crabs. The largest crab in the world is actually the Japanese Spider Crab, which has legs that are supposed to grow up to 12 feet long. Now that’s a feast! Scientists are still unsure of exactly how big these crabs can get because they live at such extreme depths that no fully grown crabs have ever been caught. (Note that this crab has legs that are about 5 feet long, imagine what 12 would look like!)
5. World’s Biggest Hand
You’d be wrong in assuming that the world’s largest hand belongs to a basketball player or even famous composer and pianist Rachmaninoff. The world’s largest hand belongs to 24-year old Liu Hua who has macrodactyly, also known as Local Giantism. At birth, the thumb, index and middle finger on his left hand were significantly larger than normal. As he grew, so did his fingers and thumb until he couldn’t function normally; his thumb eventually measured 26 centimeters long, with his index finger measuring 30 centimeters and the middle finger at 15 centimeters. He decided to undergo surgery to reduce their size.
6. World’s Biggest Working iPod
While this may just look like a clever billboard, this iPod actually does play music. While not technically an iPod, since it wasn’t manufactured by Apple, this device is 25 feet tall and is situated on the side of a bank in Columbus, Ohio. The iPod has a playlist, consisting mostly of tunes by local musicians, and was commissioned by Columbus Alive, a magazine that publishes information about the local arts scene in the city.
7. World’s Biggest Human Rainbow
How do you set world records requiring large groups of people? Involve a university, of course. The Polytechnic University of the Philippines decided to make a call to students, alumni, and staff to help break the world record for the world’s largest human rainbow. The result? A human rainbow made up of over 31,000 people. This blew the previous record apart, which had involved 11,750 people in Malta.
8. World’s Biggest Goldfish
Next time you walk by a koi pond, or see the small koi at a pet store, remember this picture. The largest (captured) goldfish in the world is an orange koi that weighs 30 pounds! While this is by no means conclusively the largest koi in the world (I mean, who knows how big some of the uncaught wild koi in the world are), this giant fish weighs the same as a small child…don’t let your kids go swimming in this lake!
9. World’s Biggest Mosaic
After 10 years of painstaking work, two brothers have completed a lifelong dream: creating a replica of the famous Orpheus mosaic. The Orpheus mosaic is the biggest Roman mosaic in Britain and is HUGE. On top of taking 10 years to complete, the replica mosaic uses 1.6 million pieces. It is 47 x 47 feet and is so unique that when the item went up for sale, the auction company in charge had no idea how to begin putting a price on it.
10. World’s Largest Sand Carpet
Known both for its beauty and temporary nature, this traditional art of Buddhists monks, who create sand art depicting animals, nature, and geometric patterns, has reached the world record book. A group of Iranian artists decided to create a sand carpet with 12 individual scenes in the center and measuring almost 40,000 square feet. The project was spearheaded by 25 artists who painstakingly arranged over 70 different colors of sand to complete the carpet.
